Founder Amy Hall is an art historian and ocean lover who was able to combine both her passions in Goldilocks Wraps. After volunteering with a shark conservation program in the South Pacific she was devastated by the ocean plastics problem globally. This compelled Amy to start her journey towards zero waste which, in turn, inspired her to start her ever growing business.
Each reusable beeswax wrap is made individually by hand in small batches. From the washing and cutting of the cotton, to waxing piece by piece, to folding and packaging, we do it all ourselves. Each wrap is held to the highest of quality standards and infused with an extra dose of love
The average person uses over 2000 square feet of plastic every year, and while our main goal is to help reduce this to zero, one of the added bonuses of our wraps is that they will actually keep your food fresh for longer! (Yes, you heard that right!). They’re better for the environment, and better for your wallet by saving food: It’s a win-win.
Left to Right: Fiona, Brett and Whitney.
Meet the Team
Business Partner, Director of Operations & Wholesale Manager
"Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (rather than opposing) forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts."
If Amy is the Yin in Goldilocks, Brett’s the Yang.. Right hand man, Number 2, call it what you will.. Depending on the day, you may see his email signature change from Director of Operations to Wholesale Manager to Director of Finance. He also holds the title as the onsite builder / handyman at the Wax Factory. Brett comes from an unconventional background of various self employed and entrepreneurial work vocations. A true minimalist that follows the “less is more" philosophy. His passion for a low waste lifestyle is driven by his inability to have any food go to waste. “You gonna eat that or should I?”
Fiona is an OG (Original Goldilocks). What does that mean? Well, she was around when we were making wraps in Amy's apartment and draping yards of fabric from room to room! She took a little hiatus to Quebec, but before she had even returned to Victoria, both Brett and Amy pounced at the opportunity to bring her back into the fold.
Originally our Market Manager extraordinaire, Fiona transitioned into the role of Production Manager in 2020. Besides organizing our staff, keeping track of inventory and managing stock, most recently you will find Fiona helping to develop our newest line of candles!
Meet Whitney, our shipping manager and customer experience specialist. Have you ever reached out to us with questions or concerns? If so, you’ve likely had the pleasure of chatting with Whit. And if you haven’t yet, drop her a line to say hey! :)
A Vancouver Island transplant from the Prairies, she made her West Coast dreams come true in 2016 by moving cross country, thus finally escaping Manitoba winters. We recruited Whitney to join Team Goldilocks in early 2019 and she’s been kicking butt ever since. With her diverse background of work experience (this girl has done it all!), she brings a truly unique perspective and set of expertise to Team Goldi that keeps us sparkling. What we’re trying to say is; she’s a real gem! Oh, and did we mention she’s also mama to our favourite office fur baby, Archie?! He’s the best.
What's In A Name?
Many people think the name is a reflection of the founder Amy's long blonde hair, but there's more to it than superficial appearances.
Not too hot, not too cold, just right. Not only does this apply to the care of our wraps, but a belief that lasting change stems from a balanced lifestyle. People are often overwhelmed when starting out their zero waste journey and choose to do nothing as a result. The key is to make small changes that can be maintained long term and to add in new habits over time. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Scientists also refer to the location of planet earth as the Goldilocks Zone, the perfect balance to foster life. Let's keep this planet beautiful together.
